Term used by Carnap in "Introduction to Semantics", 1942, to mean nonsense of the semantic, not syntactic type: pirots karulise elatically. Borrowed from Grice (but he never returned it) to echo Locke´s "very intelligent, rational" parrot in Essay Concerning Human Understanding. Term first used by Grice in 1967, William James memorial lectures. An echo of Sidonius, "implicature" as recognised in the Short/Lewis, Latin dictionary. A formation out of "implicate".
